What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants look like small screws but are made of biocompatible titanium that mimic the function of natural tooth roots. Placed in the jawbone, they stimulate the area in the same way as regular teeth, preventing bone loss and facial changes. Their ability to fuse with the bone creates a durable support system for a customized crown, bridge, or denture depending on how many teeth you are missing.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process
The dental implant process includes four steps: initial consultation, dental implant surgery, osseointegration/abutment placement, and delivery of the final restoration. Each patient can expect their experience to differ, but these same four stages are necessary if these prosthetics are to last a lifetime. Initial Dental Implant Consultation
You will meet with Dr. Vo, who will review your oral and overall health history and evaluate the density of your jawbone. If further treatment is required (i.e., gum disease treatment, bone grafting, tooth extraction, etc.), you’ll need to move forward with it before dental implant surgery can begin. This will ensure that your mouth is in the best possible shape before receiving your new teeth.
Dental Implant Surgery

Dr. Vo works closely with implant dentists in the area who are skilled in implant placement, ensuring high-quality results. On the day of your procedure, you will arrive and receive local anesthesia to numb your mouth. You will not need to worry about pain during treatment. The dentist will begin by opening your gums and placing each implant in its designated spot in your jawbone. Once they are satisfied with the placement and positioning, they will close the gum tissues and place protective healing caps over each surgical site.
Dental Implant Osseointegration/Abutment

After returning home from surgery, you can expect the fusing of your implants with your bone (osseointegration) to take between 3 and 6 months. During this time, you will need to adhere to the instructions provided by our team. This will keep your implants protected and healthy while integrating with the bone to establish a firm base for your new teeth. Once you are fully healed, metal abutments will be placed on each implant to help retain your new restoration.
Delivery of Dental Implant Restorations

The last step in the dental implant process is to receive your customized restoration, which will be secured on top of your implants. Based on the number of missing teeth, we will craft a customized crown, bridge, or denture to complete your smile. Not only will it look completely natural, but it will also feel comfortable once in place.
Benefits of Dental Implants

When trying to compare dental implants to other similar replacement methods, you’ll find the benefits of permanent prosthetics far outweigh those that are removable, including:
- Longer-Lasting: Dental implants have a lifespan of 30 years or more. Many cases report that these prosthetics never need to be replaced.
- Premier Stability: Once fused with the jawbone dental implants will not shift but instead remain stable. This makes it easier to eat confidently as well as speak to others.
- Further Stimulation: The jawbone requires stimulation to slow the process of resorption. Unlike dentures and dental bridges that do not provide stimulation, dental implants do, so facial collapse and additional tooth loss are unlikely.
- Easy Maintenance: Dental implants can be cleaned just like regular teeth and do not require special products.
- Cost-Effective: Although the upfront cost may initially be higher, the long-term investment will prove more cost-effective because you’ll unlikely need replacements, and you won’t require adhesives.
